How the Dubai to Ruwais car lift works

A car lift from Dubai to Ruwais is a long-distance booked seat running 240 km west along the E11, and the drive takes about 3 hours door to door. It is the furthest scheduled corridor we operate and the only one built around rotation shifts rather than office hours.

The riders are industrial. Plant staff, contractors and engineers working the Al Dhafra region on fixed rotations, travelling out at the start of a swing and back at the end of it. Nobody commutes this daily, and the service is not designed as though they might.

Fares are AED 90 for a shared seat and AED 190 for a private car, with a monthly shared seat at AED 3,500. Fuel across the whole distance sits inside that figure, along with the Salik gates leaving Dubai and the Darb gates around the capital.

Below: how a changeover day runs end to end, what the fare covers over that distance, the drop points across Al Dhafra, what three hours west involves including the stop in the middle, and when a crew books the whole car instead of separate seats. Eight questions follow.

All in, per seat

What the fare covers on a 240 km run

A shared seat on this run is AED 90 and the whole car AED 190. Everything below is already inside those figures.
  • Fuel for the whole distance On a stretch where filling up is a planned event rather than a convenience.
  • Salik and Darb gates Paid leaving Dubai and again around the capital, never billed afterwards.
  • A scheduled break Built into the timing rather than taken out of it.
  • Rotation luggage Kit and work gear rather than a laptop bag, so larger vehicles are assigned to this corridor as standard.
  • Free cancellation Twelve hours of notice and the booking costs you nothing, which matters when a swing moves at short notice.
Which part of the region the car reaches is the next thing worth knowing.

Drops across the Al Dhafra region

Drops reach across Al Dhafra, and the region is large enough that the last thirty minutes of a journey can be a route of its own.

Ruwais Housing Complex

The main residential destination, and the drop asked for more than any other.

Ruwais industrial gates

Plant entrances, scheduled around when your shift begins.

Madinat Zayed

The regional centre inland, reached on the same corridor and often paired with a Ruwais drop on the way through.

Ghayathi and Mirfa

Smaller towns out west, covered by arrangement instead of on every departure.

Tarif

The junction town near the midpoint, handy for sites that sit between the two ends.
How long the whole journey takes depends on the road and the break in the middle of it.
Three hours west, and the stop in the middle

Three hours west, and the stop in the middle

Three hours of driving has to be planned rather than simply undertaken. The E11 west of the capital is fast, straight and monotonous, and that combination tires a driver faster than heavy traffic does.

So a stop is written into the schedule, usually near Tarif. It costs ten minutes and is not negotiable on a shared departure. Riders stretch, drivers reset, and the second half is driven properly rather than pushed.

The road itself is in good condition the whole way. What changes is the light. Summer afternoons on the western stretch throw glare straight down the windscreen for the last hour, which is one reason morning departures are more popular than the timetable alone would explain.

Whether that journey is worth booking as a seat or as a whole vehicle usually depends on how many of you are travelling.

An individual seat, or the team's own car

Individual riders and crews book this route differently, and on a three hour drive the difference matters more than it does on a short hop.
Best value

One rider

A shared seat, travelling with others on the same rotation. The cheapest way west and usually the most sociable.

A crew of three or four

The private car costs less than the separate seats and keeps kit and people in one vehicle.

A company moving staff regularly

Invoiced on an agreed cycle rather than booked trip by trip, which suits a rota that changes monthly.
In short
Employers arranging rotation travel usually settle on the last of those. The same options exist on the other long runs we operate.
