The Route

How the Dubai to Al Ain car lift works

A car lift from Dubai to Al Ain (also called pick and drop) is a door-to-door ride to the Garden City in the eastern region of Abu Dhabi emirate. The E66, also named Tahnoun Bin Mohammed Road, runs inland past Silicon Oasis, Al Faqa and Al Hayer, well away from the coastal traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Most riders on this route aren’t daily commuters. They’re UAE University students, families visiting relatives, patients heading to Tawam Hospital, and weekend visitors going to Jebel Hafeet or the Al Ain Oasis.

A shared seat costs AED 90 one way, a private car AED 190, and a monthly shared seat AED 3,500 from Monday to Friday. Fuel is included in every fare.

Fares to Al Ain

One fixed fare covers the full 130 km, agreed before you travel.
  • One fixed fare covers the full 130 km, agreed before you travel.
  • Tolls. The E66 has no toll gates. Any Salik gate on your pickup route inside Dubai is covered.
  • Pickup at your door in Dubai. Home, office, hotel or campus.
  • Weekend luggage. Two bags in a sedan, four in an SUV.
  • Free cancellation. Up to 12 hours before departure.
Groups travelling together should read the last section before booking separately, because four seats and one car are not the same money. Where the car sets you down depends on which part of the city you are visiting.

Drop points across Al Ain

Al Ain is spread out, so we drop at your exact address, not a bus station.

UAE University and Tawam

The campus and Tawam Hospital in Al Jimi, the most booked drops on this route.

Al Jimi and Al Muwaiji

Main residential districts, with drops at your villa or building gate.

Hili and Al Qattara

The northern side of the city, near Hili Archaeological Park.

Al Ain Oasis and the central souq

The city centre, beside the UNESCO-listed oasis and the old market.

Jebel Hafeet road and Green Mubazzarah

For hotel stays, hot springs and weekend trips at the foot of the mountain.
How long any of those takes comes down to the road that gets you there.
What the inland road is like

What the inland road is like

The E66 is a wide desert highway with long straight stretches and light traffic once you pass Academic City. That’s why journey times here hold steadier than on any coastal route.

The Dubai section was widened to six lanes in each direction, so leaving the city is quick. Winter mornings can bring thick fog on the open desert stretch, and drivers slow down when it does. Friday evenings and long weekends are the busiest times, so book those early.

A seat each, or the whole car

The right choice depends on how many of you travel.
Best value

Travelling alone

A shared seat at AED 90 is the cheapest way to Al Ain.

A couple

Two shared seats cost AED 180, while a private car costs AED 190. For AED 10 more, you get the car to yourselves.

A family or four friends

Book the whole car. Four shared seats would cost AED 360, while a private car is AED 190, or an SUV for six people with more luggage.
In short
Weekend parties take the whole vehicle more often than not, and book it earlier than they think they need to. The same decision comes up on the other routes we run out of Dubai.

Who travels the inland road, and why

Traffic to Al Ain splits into two groups with almost nothing in common. Weekday travellers are staff and contractors with business at the university, the hospitals or the industrial areas, usually going for the day and coming back the same evening. Weekend travellers are families heading for the oasis, the mountain or relatives, and they fill Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings. The E66 suits both because it is dull in the best sense: one road, few junctions, and no city between the two ends to absorb an unexpected hour. A car that leaves on time arrives on time, which cannot be said of the northern corridors.

A seat costs AED 90 and the whole car AED 190, fuel and tolls inside the figure. For a family of four the car works out cheaper per head than four seats, and the boot is yours.

Daily, weekly or monthly to Al Ain

This corridor is booked by the trip more often than by the month, and the options reflect that.

Daily

AED 90 a seat, which is what most people on this route take. A same-day return is available when you are back the same evening.

Weekly

Priced on the legs booked rather than a flat rate, which suits a contractor on site for part of a week.

Monthly

AED 3,500 shared or AED 6,500 private for the working week. Worth it for the minority who make the crossing five days a week rather than occasionally.
We will say which of the three is cheaper for your pattern rather than default to the largest number.

Drivers on the E66

Assignment to the E66 follows the same verification as every other corridor.
  • A current UAE licence Checked before assignment.
  • Background verification Screened and held on file.
  • A documented accident-free record On file before the first run.
  • Breaks built into the schedule The risk on the E66 is monotony rather than congestion, so departures keep the driver sharp instead of shaving ten minutes.
  • The Dubai end A 07:00 departure meets the city approach at its worst; a 05:30 one never sees it.
