The Route

How the Dubai to Fujairah car lift works

A car lift from Dubai to Fujairah is a reserved place on the east coast run, 130 km taking about 120 minutes, and it is the only corridor on our network that climbs a mountain range to get there. The road leaves the flat coast at Masafi and crosses the Hajar Mountains before dropping to the Gulf of Oman.

That climb is what makes this route different to price and to drive. Two hours here are not two hours on a motorway. The last forty minutes are mountain road, and in the rain they are a different proposition entirely.

A seat is AED 90 and the whole vehicle AED 190, with fuel and the Salik gates leaving Dubai already counted in. Riders travelling the corridor through the working week pay AED 3,500 for a monthly shared seat. Weekend traffic dominates: beach parties heading for Al Aqah, families visiting Khor Fakkan, divers with kit bound for Snoopy Island. Weekday riders are mostly shift workers at the port.

This page covers the crossing stage by stage, what the fare buys on a mountain route, the drop points from Fujairah city up to Dibba, how weekend beach runs differ from shift travel, and when a family should take the whole car. Nine questions close it.

AED 90

All in, per seat

Fares to the east coast

A shared seat east is AED 90 and the whole car AED 190, and the climb lifts neither figure. Here is what already sits inside them.
  • Fuel over the range A climb burns more than a flat run of the same length. It changes nothing about what you pay.
  • Gates on the way out Settled by us as the car leaves the city.
  • Beach and dive kit Boards, tanks and cool boxes are ordinary cargo on this corridor, so the vehicles are sized for them.
  • Collection at your Dubai address Including the early starts a beach day needs.
  • Twelve hours of notice Cancel by then and nothing is owed, which suits plans that depend on the forecast.
Where the car finishes on the coast is a longer list than most riders expect.

Drop points from Fujairah to Dibba

Drop points run the length of the coast road. That strip is long enough that reaching its far end adds a further half hour on top of the crossing.

Fujairah city and the port

The main destination, and the busiest weekday finish.

Al Aqah and the resort strip

Weekend beach traffic, and the reason Thursday afternoon departures are the first to sell out.

Khor Fakkan

North along the coast, where the amphitheatre and the beach draw most of the family bookings we take.

Dibba

The furthest point served, sitting well north of Fujairah city itself.

Masafi

The mountain junction itself, for riders working the market or the quarries.
Which of those you are heading for tends to say what kind of trip you are making.
Weekend beach runs and shift travel

Weekend beach runs and shift travel

Weekend traffic and weekday traffic want opposite things from this route. Beach parties leave Dubai early on a Friday, carry equipment, and come back late and sandy. Nobody minds a full car.

Midweek travel is the mirror image. Industrial staff cross to fixed clock-in times, alone or in pairs, and want the earliest arrival available rather than the most comfortable one. Those departures leave before dawn.

The service handles both, but the booking should differ. A beach group ought to reserve the whole vehicle and say what they are carrying. A shift worker should take a seat and give us the gate time rather than the departure time they think they need, because the two are rarely the same on this road.

How many of you are travelling settles which of those two bookings makes sense.

A shared seat, or the family car

Seats suit individuals on this corridor and whole vehicles suit groups, and the tipping point comes earlier here than on a commuter route because of the kit involved.
Best value

One traveller

Take a seat. Weekday departures rarely fill and you will have room either side of you.

Two travellers with beach gear

The prices are close, and the boot space usually decides it rather than the money.

A family or a dive group

Book the vehicle. Four seats cost more, and boards and tanks do not fit a shared allowance.
In short
Families booking a day at the beach take the car almost without exception. The same choice comes up on the northern corridors we run.

Dubai to Fujairah questions

About 120 minutes for the 130 km. Roughly ninety of those are flat road and the final forty are mountain. Rain slows the descent noticeably, and drivers take it steadily rather than trying to recover the time lower down.
