How the Fujairah to Dubai car lift works
The road leaves the Gulf of Oman coast, rises through the Hajar Mountains to Masafi, then drops onto the flat desert road towards Dubai. The order matters: the hard driving is at the beginning of this journey and at the end of the return, which is why westbound and eastbound timings are not mirror images.
Fares are AED 90 for a shared seat and AED 190 for the whole car, with fuel and the Salik gates on the Dubai approach inside the figure. A monthly shared seat is AED 3,500. The riders are mostly port and industrial staff travelling in for the working week, plus east coast residents with business in the city.

Through Masafi, and why the return is different
Every practical route between Fujairah and Dubai goes through Masafi, where the mountain road meets the desert one.
Westbound, the climb comes first, while the car is empty of the day's traffic and the drivers are fresh. The second half is open road and the only uncertainty is the Dubai edge.
Eastbound the order reverses: city traffic first and the mountain descent last, often in the dark. It is the same distance and a different drive, which is why the return is timed separately rather than simply reversed.
